All done
With this being my last blogpost to date and after finishing my coursework I just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed the experience and the challenge, I have met some rather amazingly interesting people and worked harder than i thought i would. This year making a Music video has been so much fun and i really feel like i understand how media works. Thanks for the experience.
52. Do's and Don'ts
Do's for the website:
Plan
I need to make sure that I have a general plan to follow, even if it isn't very detailed but just so I have a set plan i can refer back to when needed to help me stay on the correct path. It will also give me new and refreshing ideas so i can draw on it when i need to.
Audience
I need to research who my main target audience for the website is so I can appeal to them specifically and make them more attracted to it giving it more of a chance to boost my music video. The target audience ranges between 18-24 females. In order to appeal to them we need to relate certain features to the audience to make it appeal to them.
Platform/Vision: When it comes to making the music video I will b using a website called Weebly. For my website I want to try and keep the colors as mute as possible with the font and layout being rather soft and easy to understand for the audience
Don'ts
Copyright/Stealing: Taking things from other peoples websites is a form of copyright and in some cases counts as a form of stealing, gathering ideas and inspiration from other people is okay but taking things that are specifically identified as someone elses counts as copyright. Therefore using photoshop and asking for permission is a good way to avoid these situations.Do's for the Digipak
Layout:
Similar to my website the layout would be rather soft and eloquent and really folk like to fit the music and the artist, the color pallet will be desaturated black and white.
Image: The images involved will show of the artist and the use of synergy in my cross media products
Formally closing off blog.
FINAL BLOG POST!
I just want to say that I have enjoyed the experience of blogging, learned a lot of things for instance, how to use other media technology and met three amazing people who was a pleasure to make this project with.
50. Individual Ideas for Digipak/Website
Digipak
As a group we came up with some basic ideas and plans. However its mainly an individual task so i needed to have my own seperate ideas and views to set mine apart from the rest. Here were some of my ideas:
Framing/shots: For the outer cover of my digipak i want to keep it rather basic with a wide angle image of the artists walking in the distance similar to that of the original Artist Gabrielle Aplin and her album English rain. The main piece of synergy the bowler hat will also be the main thing in sight. The background will also be filled with nature.
Color/Fonts:The font of the original album English rain is very eloquent and handwritten giving a very folk like vibe which is something i really wanted to use on my own work. It makes the album cover look more personal to the artist.
- My color scheme is gonna be very mute, pastel and calming. Like most folk type artist have very low key colors, Aplin herself chose to go for a very monotone black and white look which is something i think is really effective and is something i would like to use on my own work.

Evaluation Question 4
What have you learned from you audience feedback?
Rough Cut
Rough cut feedback from teacher:
During our editing process we were asked to ask other members from the class to give their honest opinion about our video so far. Most really enjoyed it, however it was mainly to do with the lip syncing and the fact that most couldn't tell between the flashbacks and present day.
After receiving the feedback from both of my teachers and my classmates we all realized the changes that needed to be made, we ended up using premiere pr to edit the filters on the chorus/flashbacks making it easier for the audience to understand the difference between the tenses. After making them black and white we decided to add slow motion to certain areas to show the raw emotion of the lovers making the audience feel more emotive.
Here is some of my feedback and my actual final product music video:

Formally Closing Off Blog
I have made it to the end of my media coursework and blogging. I have learnt a lot, enjoyed myself and met some amazing people. I thought I'd share this blooper video again from our filming stages of this project
Evaluation Question 3
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Camera
Camera
One of the main pieces of equipment we used for the post production of the music video was the Camera, obviously being a key ingredient to making a music video. After borrowing the equipment from the media department and all having prior experience from our AS year which made it easier to capture the shots and angles we needed to take, also knowing what all the buttons do was also helpful
We each took turns filming different parts of the music video until we realized that the only person who had a real steady hand and kept the actors in focus was Diana.
Fig Rig
The next important piece of equipment was the fig rig which made moving around and the accessibility aspect a lot easier especially when it came to filming in Hampstead Heath. When it came to tracking shots and over the shoulder shots it was really useful to get a steadier shot making it more clear for everyone on what we were taking. However when it came to the inside shots we found out it was a lot harder to move between rooms because of the size of the wheel and it also made some of our inside shots out of focus and was just basically a risk assessment in general.
Dedo Light
Once we realised our locations and how one of them would be inside our teachers recommended for us to use a Dedo light to help us improve the lighting and the quality of images especially when it came to filming the bath scene, although for that parrticular scene we decided to edit it more to increase the lighting almost making it look like a spot light because we ended up forgetting to use the light.
Social Media
Social media was also a huge help when it came down behind the scenes and sneak peaks of the filming and the editing process so the target audience would be able to keep track of things as well as teachers baing able to see our progress. This is why we made a Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. We ended up posting videos and pictures of our filming dates and all the different locations we went to that way our forms of social media would be updated.
Blogger
Blogger was probably the most useful piece of technology we had, we used it to post our work/research on a daily basis. It was literally like the process and journey leading up to the deadline allowing me to use other types of website to ambed as well as images and videos making it more fun and giving me more interesting ways to present my work.
Post production:
Weebly/Photoshop
Photoshop was really useful when it came to making my Digipak/album because it allowed me the freedom to mould it however i wanted it too i was able to create a folk like album cover similar to that of the original artist. With a suitable color scheme and font whch then allowed me to make the inside.
Weebly was also useful, after deciding on our synergy which was the bowler hat it allowed us to create the other type of media products such as our website, using influences to choose our colour scheme and font.
Goodbye :)
As this is my last blog post, I decided to leave with a short video I made with bloopers of videos I tried to record for other posts.
Enjoy :)
Evaluation question 4.
What have you learned from you audience feedback?
Here it is the rough cut video:
This is the feedback from our teachers about our rough cut:
- We took Louisa's advice and added a shot of our fictional artist closing her eyes.
- However, we stuck with the black and white filter for the flashback because we wanted to have a clear contrast between the shots representing the past and present.
- As you can see in the rough cut, there are long shots, specially in the flashback so we did what Louisa told us told us to do. Therefore, in our final music video the flashbacks are shorter.
- For the order of base tracks, we followed our teacher's guidance and put all of the external base tracks for the beginning and internal base tracks for the last part of the song.
This is what our teacher Marissa told us:
After reading our teacher's feedback, we as a group came up with some ideas that we wanted to keep and others that needed to be changed.
We has our video screened in Islington Cinema. After the screening, a member of our group asked other media students what they thought about our music video. This is the video:
- "I really liked the way the guitar fits the genre" After watching this, I came up with the idea of having a part of a guitar as the picture for my CD in the digipak
- "it was really clear what the concept was about" and "I liked the flashbacks" I felt very proud because we added the black and white effect in order for our audience to identify visually our storyline.
What I learned from the feedback is that we as a group did a very good job because we chose a narrative that fitted the song. Also, how important it was to take any advice into consideration for the final result because if we had not added any effect at all for the flashbacks, our potential audience would have interpreted the music video in a different way and probably would have been confused about the narrative.
How did the audience in the cinema react to your video?
AUDIENCE REACTION from Andrea Herrera on Vimeo.
- The audience reaction after our music video was screened was positive and they gave a round of applause when the music video finished, and this makes me think they really liked and enjoyed it.
Audience feedback about my ancillary products:
I would like to say that the people I have asked for opinion are between 16 to 24, in order words, my potential target audience.
I asked two friends of mine from Spain what they thought about my website and digipak and this is what the first person told me. (I tried to translate it as accurate as possible)
- I feel like I did a good job trying to place the image of the guitar into the CD template as my friend seems to like it.
- I was not sure about my website, specially the background but I think I did a good job judging from my friend's comment.
This is what the second person said about my website and digipak
- Once again, the idea of the guitar as the image for the CD seems to be original and appealing for my potential audience.
- She has not commented much about my website but I think I did well.
The third person is Diana, a member of my group.
- She is the third person who has commented on how I used a picture of the guitar onto the actual CD and this makes me confirm that it was a good idea.
- She has mentioned the image of the artist being clear. Before the actual image, I had a picture of the artist not looking directly at the camera and I remember one of my teachers who suggested me to change it for other picture where the artist is looking directly at the camera as it indicates she is building a relationship with her fans and it is very important for a new and upcoming artist.
- I am really pleased to know my website follows the codes and conventions of the folk genre as that is the purpose I was aiming for.
Evaluation Question 4
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
This was the rough cut of our music video
We received some constructive criticism and feedback and were able to improve it. We knew it wasn't perfect and it needed work as it wasn't where we wanted it to be and we knew it was out of sync but we thought we were making good and steady progress.
We received feedback from our teacher as she watched our rough cut and we noted what she said decided on how we were going to make adjustments to the cut in light of the feedback.

These were our comments on the feedback we received. I will be analysing how much we followed through with the feedback and our own comments. The emaze below discusses the feedback and how much we followed it:

I also got further feedback from my core target audience:
comments from Diana Baukerte on Vimeo.

This feedback was very important to me because it came from friends my age (our target audience) so I trusted their opinions. It was also important to hear what they liked about the draft so that we know what we should keep at and leave in the video. The bad points were more important I think because we had time to improve on these things. The major issue was the syncing of the video with the audio and because it was mentioned the most from my feedback, we made sure that we spent a good amount of our remaining time sorting out this issue, we then focused on the other issues such as transitions between shots.
I feel like we acted on all the feedback given and improved our video because of it. We received positive feedback at the final screening.
This was the reaction to our music video at the final screening:
IMG_4233 from Diana Baukerte on Vimeo.
The reaction was positive, our video received a round of applause which was satisfying when reflecting on how much work and effort was put into the video; it made the work worthwhile.

This is what our target audience had to say about our music video:
feedback for final video from Diana Baukerte on Vimeo.
All of the comments given after the final screening were positive, the majority of comments were given by our core target audience which shows that we have improved on the feedback from the rough cut and the general positive final feedback can be generalised to a wider audience. However, it would help to get even more feedback.
If we were able to create the music video again, there would be things that could be improved. One of the comments was a little negative regarding the costume of our artist at a certain part of the video; it came across as a little to revealing for the genre of our song. Therefore, we could have reconsidered some of the costume or perhaps the way it was worn/presented in the video.

This was the feedback on website when it was still in progress. I feel like I worked on the feedback well to some extent. I used only two fonts as was suggested and I used the same two fonts for the digipak also. However, the image of our artist that looked like a selfie remained because I really liked the picture and you could clearly see her facial features. Therefore, some advice wasn't taken on board. Maybe, if I were to be able to make my ancillary texts again, I would use a different picture of the artist to make my products look more professional.
In light of this feedback, overall I am happy with my ancillary texts as many comments are positive. For example, feedback from both people mentioned my use of paper on the CD itself and how they like it and how it may suggests things about the artist and her music. I am happy with this because I put a lot of thought into the planning of my digipak and how I wanted to design it. Also, both pieces of feedback complimented me for my use of earthy colours and choice of font as it suits the folk genre and this suggests I have followed the codes and conventions of the folk genre which is what I intended to do from the very beginning.
53. Shortlist of pictures
As the pictures I had originally set out to use for my ancillary products were not used in my products, I have made a new selection of images that were taken and used in my Digipak and Website.
51. Influences
Some of the existing artists that influenced my on my Digipak and Website were:
- Taylor Swift
- The Paper Kites
and other artists. I only analysed two artists products in order to help me with mine, as well as the original artist, Gabrielle Aplin.
Taylor Swift
The Paper Kites
The Main artists that I was inspired for my website was The Paper Kites. This is because of the fact that their website is simple but very effective.
Gabrielle Aplin (The original artist)
Gabrielle Aplin's original album cover in my opinion is the only one that influenced me to create mine in the way that I did, with the colours and image.
