38. First Filming Day - Hampstead Heath

We met at the time planned and filmed at the location planned. We took all the shots previously planned from our shot list but we also filmed a few more base tracks and general shots that we thought would work.
We didn't encounter any issues that we considered from our risk assessment; the weather was good, the equipment fully functioning and the time of day wasn't too busy.

Here is some footage from our first filming day:

36. Feedback

Revisions to pitch and final decisions:
We need to think about our wider audience carefully because it is almost the same as our core target audience. This would enable us to expand our fanbase. Also, the storyboard and shot list is a little brief so we have to redraft and make sure it is done so in detail. Finally, we need to be thinking about our ancillary products and taking pictures that will work well with the video and make it clear that all of these products link together.

3. Pitch - Initial Idea (Diana)

Blog 33 & 16. Pitch - Production Schedule (Diana)

31. Animatic Storyboard

28&29 Blog & 14. Pitch: Storyboard & Shortlist

Storyboard

Shotlist

Our draft storyboard was much less detailed and we didn´t follow a shot list, therefore we didn´t have enough shots planned. The base tracks have not changed but we have added more individual shots e.g. close ups of the artist.

8. Pitch: Synergy

Synergy(Liam)

The main key visual element we're going to use in to link together our promotional video with the ancillary texts is the bowler hat, the reason we chose that prop or item is because as a group we believe although it only makes a small difference to the artist it is very effective it showing the general aspects of the folk genre and evokes the essence of the artist, the bowler hat is/has been shown throughout the ancillary work e.g. album cover. Other folk artists have also worn those sort of hats previously in their past videos as well as Gabrielle herself.
This being the hat itself.

We also considered using a guitar as the main element as well because of the backing track of the original song being a guitar and it gives a very folk type vibe.

6. Pitch - Settings and Locations (Diana)

10. Pitch: Ancillary Work(Liam)

We chose this look for our ancillary work because minus the black clothing from the neck upwards it captures the essence we're looking for, the hat and minimum make up make the artist look more generic in reference to the folk genre which is similar to what Gabrielle Aplin herself uses in her own music videos.

1. Pitch: Song Choice

Gabrielle Aplin: Home (Liam)

The song we chose was by the artist Gabrielle Aplin and it is called Home

Setting: The original video was in a more desert location most likely not in England, with our low budget we clearly couldn't afford the vehicles and we would be unable to get permission to film on those locations. So for our own version we are going to base our video in various locations such as Hampstead Heath and an actual house.

Location: In the video Home she is shown in numerous different locations like a car, a motel bed, a cafe, a car wash. However for our own version we were trying to keep the general conventions of a folk type music video by feeling in a natural area like Hampstead Heath, we also want to make our video Narrative so decided to make part of it in a house in a bed and using the bath and living room to our advantage.

Costume: In the original she is wearing very casual clothing nothing too revealing and generally fitting the conventions of a folk type video with very few outfit changes. So in our version we're gonna make our artist wear very folk like clothes very casual and less revealing outfits with very little outfit changes and the clothing not being too dark.

Concept: The original concept is Gabrielle Aplin running throughout the music video always on the move, with no place to really call home. She is alone, broke and distraught with no place to go. However we're making our video narrative, our artist will be experiencing different disasters/distraught moments throughout her daily life nothing seems to go her way, then once we reach the chorus it will contrast by showing a flashback to her and her boyfriend because her heart is where the home is and her heart lies with him. This will be repeated throughout the song.

Final ideas for our music video.

Our final ideas for our music video are:

  • Gabrielle Aplin - Home
We chose this music video because we wanted to keep it as close as possible to our original artist. We decided to use nature as in the video because it gives a folk vibe. For instance, this wide shot in order to present our fictional artist.

  • Taylor Swift - Back to December
We would like to recreate a similar shot in the bathroom where the artist is in the bathroom tub to connote her loneliness without her boyfriend.

  • The paper kites - Bloom
In order to link to the folk genre, we want to shoot a shot like this (see below) where our fictional artist is with a guitar.

22 Blog & 7. Pitch: Costume. Andrea Herrera

COSTUME

Artist's name: Gabrielle Aplin

Similar artist: Lucy Rose

Our own artist: River

  • How many costume changes will you have?
We will have three costume changes.
(similar clothes)

First costume change:

An oversize jumper, blue jeans and black boots.
Second costume change:

A white t-shirt and boyfriend jeans.

And some black plain shoes

Third costume change:

A pyjama for the indoor location in Diana's house.

What sorts of costumes would your audience expect to see your artist wearing?

The genre of our artist is folk music. Therefore, our audience would expect her to see High street clothes because similar artists, for instance, Lucy Rose wears casual clothes in her videos. In this way, our audience can relate themselves to our artist for her clothing.
