4) Andrew Goodwins Theory

1. Music videos tend to include a demonstration of typical genre characteristics

An example for this would be: For a rapper we tend to see them in the shot with almost-naked women behind them, the girl is hardly shown her face, usually just her body, breasts, legs or behind.
A metal genre is usually just a video of the performer on stage.
Heavy rock are manly influenced by horror films, this is known as intertextuality

SNOOP DOGG- DYNAMITE

2. There is often references to the notion of looking of the female body

The notion of looking is either men or women being portrayed seductively, or if there is eye contact with the camera.
An example of this is through: mirrors, screens, cameras or telescopes.

3. A succinct relationship between music and visuals.
This can be either illustrative, amplifying or contradicting.
Some of these relationships can be seen in Killer/Papa Was a Rolling stone by George Michael.

4. Record label demands

the record labels that some artists are signed to, tend to have many demands. These demands can be things like having a lot of close ups of the artists and these close ups allow the audience to see the artists for what we can remember them by. For example, with the close ups of Lady Gaga, we will always remember her for the unusual clothes she tends to wear.

5. Intertextual Reference

Intertextual references are when the music video has a relation with a well known Film.
For example, a music video from a Hispanic artists- Don Omar, that might not have been known before the movie Fast and Furious.
