Laura Mulvey's theory- The Male Gaze is about how the audience views the people presented in the music videos.
For feminists it can be seen in three different ways:
How men look at women
How women look at themselves
How women look at other women
Laura Mulvey put together the term 'The Male Gaze' in 1975, she believed that the audience are made to look at the characters from the perspective of a heterosexual male.
The features of The Male Gaze:
The camera lingers over the body of a female, such as the curves, legs or chest of her, events that occur to women are presented largely in the context of a mans reactions to this.
Uptown Funk is a video that follows part of Laura's theory. This is because in the beginning shots of the music video, we are introduced to a woman who, despite the repetitive shots, we never see her face, just shots of different parts of her body. Also, as she walks on, we are lead onto the shot of Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson, leaning against the wall quite manly watching the female walk by.
The second video
This video, although is made purposely to find funny, the video consists more females in bikinis than guys by the poolside, and also, the common video or there being a lot of girls by the pool side as the excuse to use half naked girls in the video.
